He continued gazing at you and after a few seconds where she believed she'd crumble in her chair at the hypnotic pull from across the table, he said, "You and your dress, and the way you're blushing right this second, has me thinking I'm going to kiss you."

She caught herself panting and closed her mouth.

"Not here." He straightened and looked around the room and mumbled, "Later."

"Later?" She ducked her chin. Oh God, she'd said that out loud.

He chuckled low. "Do you need a specific time?"

She looked through lowered lashes. "That might help because I can't even think right now with you blurting out everything I'm thinking and looking at me that way and me being scared and not knowing what is going on with everything outside of us…and you. You scare me, Swiss."

He ran his thumb and index finger down the outside lines of his goatee. "All you have to do is tell me no."

"No," she blurted. "I mean yes. I want you to kiss me."

The corner of his mouth lifted. Gia sighed in impatience.

"I don't know what I'm doing. You're like nobody I've ever known." She glanced around making sure they hadn't grabbed anyone else's attention. "I'm also feeling guilty."

She sagged in her chair. "I came here with the intent to use you for protection like some big warning sign to keep the bad men away and instead…"

"Instead, you want me," he said, shrugging. "It is what it is, sweetheart."

She burst out laughing and shut off her nervous amusement instantly, mortified that she'd forgotten about everyone else in the bar and nodded. "Yes, I guess that's what I'm saying."

It was exactly 7:30 p.m. when Michael entered the Raindrops' lobby and saw Priscilla standing near the concierge desk, talking with two other women. All were holding exotic looking drinks that seemed to match their hair and their dresses.

Smiling at her, he made his way across the room. She looked magnificent, wearing a floor-length green chiffon gown, with her long, jet-black hair slicked back into a high ponytail.

Seeing that he had arrived, she excused herself and came to meet him. It felt good seeing a sparkle in her eye. Her creamy shoulders were bare in the green dress and Michael wanted to kiss them right there in the lobby. "Hello," he said, taking her in.

"Hello," she replied with a bright smile. "I'm glad you made it."

"What?" he asked, handing her the rose. "Did you think I'd stand you up, or something?"

"Don't make me blush," she said, accepting it. "Thanks for this. How sweet."

They embraced and he settled for kissing her on the cheek. "You look almost too beautiful."

"Thank you. So do you," she said, taking his hand. "Come meet my friends, then we'll go in."

"Oh, you're ready to show me off now?"

She gave him a look and laughed, leading him over to the desk where the other two attractive women were standing. One was a redhead, the other a tall brunette.

"Ladies, this is Michael Frost, my date for the evening. Michael, meet my good friend Paula Fleischman and her sister Stella. We're neighbors."

He shook hands, greeting them both. Their curious appraisal of him was not lost on Michael. And as they all turned to go into the theater room, he noticed the knowing smirk Paula shot Priscilla. It seemed to promise an interrogation at the earliest possible convenience.

"Oh, my God," the girl named Stella exclaimed, grabbing Priscilla's arm. "Is that Clint Eastwood standing right next to Kim Novak?"

"Stell," Paula warned. "You promised not to embarrass us."

"I know. But even Doris Knight was out in the lobby! Doris freaking Knight! A woman who hasn't been seen out in public for decades. Cilla—you have to let me say hello to her."

"I'll introduce you later...but only if you relax, Stella. We can't have people thinking we invited a patient from the local psych ward."

Paula cracked up and gave her sister a look. "Exactly. Behave."

"This is pretty cool, though," said Michael, as they entered the balcony and sat down. "Seeing Hollywood royalty close up."

Squeezing his hand, Priscilla leaned in and whispered, "I'm so glad you're here."

"Me too," he whispered back, looking into her eyes. She smelled fabulous, and Michael was dying to kiss her, to cover himself with her, but he knew the time would come for that. "I couldn't stop thinking about you."

She blushed, but he saw good things in her eyes.

The evening began with an opening speech by the President of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, who spoke eloquently of Veronica Bauer's contribution to the film industry, and the enduring popularity of her Academy Award winning roles.

After a few other speeches and a collage of clips from her most well-known productions, there was a very nice dinner followed by a screening of her final film before retiring from Hollywood, Rainfall, opposite Sean Connery and Jimmy Stewart.

Afterwards, Michael got a signal from Priscilla and they snuck off to talk out in the lobby. "Didn't you want to hear the closing?" he asked, joining her underneath one of the elegant chandeliers.

"No, not really," she replied. "Did you? Because we can go back in if you want."

"Well, I was really enjoying it," said Michael, sipping his drink. "But now I'd much rather find out what you'd like to be doing instead."

Saying nothing, Priscilla slipped him a suite number and key card, then discreetly disappeared.

“Are you okay?” I barely get out. Did someone suck all the air off the planet because I can barely catch my breath?

“More than fine. Just visiting me da.” He raises the flask to me and croons in that husky Irish brogue. “Would yer like some?”

“No thanks.” I glance at the gravestone, which pretty much says Dallas was the single party hound whom Fay described. “I’m asking because Dallas is my half sister’s uncle, and he supposedly doesn’t have any children.”

He chuckles. “Well, I’ll be damned. I’m a bastard. Would’ve never thought that.” He swings his flask. “Here’s to yer, Da.”

His drinking scares me. “You aren’t driving are you?”

“I’ll be sleeping here tonight with me dear ole da. I think he’d like that.” He drinks some more and almost hits his head on the stone. “Yer see, he left all his millions to the Humane Society, and even took his dog with him, so he wouldn’t have to give a dime or his dog to us. Never paid a cent to me ma, and I liked the dog. I would’ve taken the dog.” He burps rather loudly.

“You should let us drive you home. I’m Willa. If Dallas is your dad, then you’re my cousin through marriage.” I look at him, expecting a name. He should be home in bed.

“Aedan. Are we kissing cousins?” He winks both eyes at me.

“We just met,” I say, his comment causing me to stumble backward. Now I really can’t breathe.

“Tis a shitty day, but I know how to make it better.” He stands up and towers over me, and I’m not short. His lips curl into a devilish grin, and he teeters on his feet.

Jittery nerves flutter in my stomach. He’s not as big as Shane, but he’s big.

His grin widens, and he rubs that sexy bearded chin. “Kiss a pretty girl. That’ll make my day.” Both his hands clasp my face, and his eyes sparkle with devious intent. He swoops down and lands his lips on my unsuspecting ones.

The beard growth scratches my chin. I taste the Irish whiskey on his tongue, and the scent of pure male, musky with a hint of soap, fills my nose. And to my surprise, my body really likes his roughness, especially the taste of him.

My legs give out, and his hand repositions to my waist. I’m melting, pooling into a puddle by his intense kiss. The song Kiss by Prince plays in my head. That has never happened when I’ve hooked lips with a boy. I’m hearing music, which could be worse than voices.

Cover Reveal - More Than a Memory by Marie James

Title: More Than a Memory
Author: Marie James
Genre: Contemporary Sports Romance
Cover Design: Essen-tial Designs
Release Date: November 9, 2016

“You’re gorgeous. Even better looking than the day I fell in love with you.”

The words are a constant reminder of what true love is. Olivia Dawson’s alarm goes off at the same time every day and she disappears into her room to hear Duncan’s voice, see his face, miss him even more for being untouchable. Olivia loves with her entire heart, and her love for Duncan is unmatched, but there’s something about her new roommate she just can’t seem to ignore—no matter how hard she tries.

“I miss you so much.”
“Can’t be more than I miss you.”

The words are a constant reminder of how unavailable Olivia is, and Bryson Daniels isn’t one for competition off the baseball field, but since the moment he knocked on the door to his new apartment and his roommate “Ollie” wasn’t who he expected, he can’t help but consider bending a few of his rules—even if it means heeding to Olivia’s.

“I love you, sweet cheeks. Chat with you later?”

Bryson hears the conversations through the paper thin walls, but there’s a pain inside Olivia he can’t seem to walk away from. He vows to be there for her when the voice on the other side of the computer inevitably breaks her heart, but will he ever be able to compete with someone who’s more than a memory?

I join him on the couch and wait for the awkward conversation to pop up again. It’s not the first time he’s caught me appreciating his body, and if he keeps living here, it won’t be the last. In my defense, he’s practically half naked and cut like an Olympian. I’d like to meet a heterosexual woman who wouldn’t do a double take at a shirtless Bryson Daniels. I imagine the list would lean toward the geriatric end of the spectrum, or the blind.

“What are you doing?” he chastises as I scoot a sliver of watercress away from my food. “That’s the best part!”

I hold my plate up for him as he stabs the evil vegetable with his fork and pops it into his mouth.

Plush lips, strong jaw, and masculine slashed eyebrows—this man has everything going for him.

I give my head a slight shake and turn my attention back to the TV. He seems relaxed and unfazed by sitting on the couch beside me. I, on the other hand, am full of turmoil. His thigh is touching mine, his shoulder bumps mine every now and then, and my body shakes slightly when he laughs, ever aware of his proximity.

“You seem like a Hermione,” he says as Harry and Ron sit down beside her in the library.

I watch her with sad eyes as she struggles to remain proud and unaffected by the naysayers trying to pull her down. I’m nothing like her. She stands up to those who throw negativity her way. She faces adversity with her head held high. I cower and hide.

“I wish I were as strong as her,” I say, my voice low. “I used to be like her.”

“What changed?” I tilt my head in his direction, finding the softness in his voice matches the compassion in his eyes.

Looking away, I shake my head, trying my best not to let the tears stinging my eyes fall down my cheek.

“Hey,” Bryson says, reaching over and hooking a finger under my chin, “forget I said anything.”

His finger is gone just as fast, and I miss his touch immediately. My appetite gone, I lean forward and place my half eaten plate of food on the coffee table, the idea of hiding away in my room sounding better by the second.

“Nope,” Bryson says. Picking up my plate, he puts it back on my lap and points to the pile of broccoli. “None of that. Only those in the Slytherin house refuse to eat their vegetables. You’re not Slytherin, are you?”

I grin at his silliness. “Hufflepuff all the way.”

I pop a chunk of food in my mouth.
“That’s what I thought.”

Once we enter and the doors close, she pushes a different number than mine. Is this over?

Not by a long shot.

“Why don’t you join me?” I insist. Grabbing her hand and kissing the back of it. Wanting to run my lips all the way up her shoulder and kiss her. Hard. Slow. Deeply. Instead, I think of the right words to keep her around for just a little longer. Long enough to taste her. “We can order as many movies as we want. The groom is paying.”

She bites her lip as if considering my offer. She glances around the elevator. But then she stops, connecting it with my gaze briefly. Her eyes move to my lips and linger there for a couple of beats before they drop to the floor. At least I think that’s where they are. Unless she’s looking at my pants, that can barely contain my throbbing dick. A kiss. At least one kiss before we say goodbye.

I step into her. Reaching out, I cup the back of her neck, pulling her closer to me. She sucks in her breath; her eyes widen, but she doesn’t step back. I’ve been wondering what she tastes like, how it’ll be to kiss those plumped, shaped heart lips. Imagining the feel as I run my hands over her luscious curves and taste her, feel her body quiver under mine while she screams my name. My heart slams hard against my ribcage, but my lungs stop working because something inside my heart tells me that if we do more than kissing, I won’t be able to let her go easily.

The logical side of my brain suggests I turn around and leave. Call it curiosity, lust, or the fucking pull Jade has on me, but I push away all reason and let my heart lead. Just a taste. One kiss. Before I chicken out, I slant my mouth over hers. As we touch, the electrical current we produce increases, knocking me off my stride. She tastes like nothing I’ve ever had before, and I want to taste more. All. Fuck, why did I wait so long to kiss her? I ask in silence as my hands tighten around her waist. She brings her arms around me. Pressing herself closer to me, my dick pushing hard against her abdomen. Our tongues dance as our kiss switches speeds. From sweet to demanding, to… I stop as the elevator’s bell dings and the doors open.

“This is me,” she says, catching her breath. Stepping out of the elevator, she turns around and waves at me. Her brown eyes watch me, and I want to understand what they’re saying, learn what she’s thinking, and… God, I’m screwed. “Thank you for everything.”

“When will I see you again?” I ask, holding the doors open. Missing her lips already.

She now lives in Colorado working for a small IT company, managing her household filled with three confused dogs, said nerd husband, two daughters wrought with fandoms and a son who thinks he’s the boss of the house.
